He had the genetics from start, but apart from that the story about "The Giant Swede" starts in the mid eighties.
Two brothers watched TV and were impressed by Jon Pall Sigmarsson, at that time holding the "Worlds Strongest Man" title.
This was also when Arnold Schwarzenegger was at the height of his bodybuilding career.
The brothers went to town and bought themselves a barbell and a Schwarzenegger training manual.
The first time Magnus attempted the bench press he did 100 kg! That was at sixteen years of age.
A lot of workouts followed in their mothers' laundry room, which for the first years became their gym.
Magnus worked out six-seven days a week. But never before school was out and his daily chores on
the farm were done. - I grew up learning to earn my keep. I never trained during the day, always
between seven and ten pm. It's only for the last couple of years that I have started to put some more
time into training, Magnus says in his country accent. At first he had no specific goal with his training,
just to get real strong.
-I'm used to doing things properly, so I don't go to the gym to stand around showing of, Magnus says,
and continues,
-Of course I dreamt of Strongman competitions, but I didn't think it would really happen.
